In March 2005 BMS opened its largest satellite health center at 360 Snediker Avenue in neighboring East New York, Brooklyn.
BMS@Genesis, as the satellite health center is called, is situated on the ground and lower levels of Genesis Neighborhood Plaza (GNP), a housing complex for low income families. GNP is a "permanent service-enriched housing complex" that is home to 54 low-income families. The complex is owned and operated by HELP USA, Inc.
In October 2004, BMS became one of 76 organizations across the country to receive federal grants to fund the establishment of new community health centers that serve the uninsured or underinsured. The Health Resources and Services Administration, a division of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), awarded a total of $49 million nationwide, of which BMS received $941,667 -- one of the largest awards given. In addition to the federal grant, BMS received a loan in the amount of $1,120,443 and a grant in the amount of $479,872 from Primary Care Development Corporation for the Genesis project.
This extraordinary infusion of funds and financing enabled BMS to create a state-of-the-art health care facility designed to serve over 5,000 of Brooklyn's neediest annually. The 11 examination rooms are all Article 28 compliant and newly appointed with such innovative technology as electronic medical records and electronic practice management systems. Optimal staffing levels and high provider productivity mean there are no long waits for appointments or to see a provider during visits.
BMS@Genesis offers Adult Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics and Social Services.
