Harvey Lawrence became President and CEO of BMS on January 2009, after serving as the Corporations Executive Vice President and COO. Since joining the executive team in 1994, Mr. Lawrence has been responsible for most of the Corporations new initiatives and expansion. He is a former non-profit developer of affordable housing and Vice President in the investment banking, public finance and real estate divisions of the former Manufacturers Hanover Trust Bank. He began his public service career as Management Trainee at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. His tenure in public service has included serving as Senior Vice President at the Financial Services Corporation in NYC's Office of Economic Development; Executive Director of the City's Industrial Commercial Incentive Board, and Senior Finance/Development Director at the NYC Public Development Corporation. Mr. Lawrence holds a Masters of Science Degree in Management Science and Policy Analysis from Harriman College, at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He is also a graduate of the Johnson & Johnson/UCLA Health Care Executive Certificate Program.

Mari G. Millet - Chief Operating Officer

Mari Gabrielle Millet assumed the position of COO in August 2009. She brings 25 years of diverse experience in health care management, budgets, planning, and, analysis. She has managed day to day operations for academic medical institutions, private medical practices, and tertiary care hospitals. Prior to BMS, she worked for Brookdale University Medical Center, Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, New York Methodist Hospital, New York Hospital Medical Center of Queens, and New York Flushing Hospital. Her responsibilities at these institutions included new program development and implementation, revenue and expense management, service delivery quality and performance improvement, policy and procedure development and documentation, and strategic and operational planning. She has successfully led multiple projects from conceptualization to the product selection phase and through system development and deployment. Ms. Millet holds advanced degrees in Community Health and Health Care Administration.

Katherine A. Golar, M.D. - Chief Medical Officer

Katherine A. Golar, M.D. a board-certified Internist, is a graduate of Cornell University and the Boston University School of Medicine. Before joining the staff of BMS in 1999, she worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital’s Department of Community Medicine and Settlement Health and Medical Services. From 1997 – 2003, Dr. Golar maintained a part-time private practice in integrative medicine. She has also served as adjunct faculty at the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education and the Long Island University School of Nursing. She has been a participant and group leader in the University of Massachusetts’ Teaching of Tomorrow Program, an innovative program designed to facilitate the development of a more humanistic and effective medical education process. She is currently co-host of Integrative Healing, a weekly radio program on WWRL 1600 AM, presenting information on conventional and alternative approaches to health care.

Edmund Awuah, CPA - Chief Financial Officer

Appointed to this position in May 2006, Mr. Awuah is a Certified Public Accountant with twenty years experience in the field of accounting, auditing, financial management, fiscal consulting, and academia. He’s worked with a variety of organizations in both the profit and not-for profit sectors including the New York Foundling Hospital where he served as Comptroller from 2003-2005, the Bedford Stuyvesant Community Mental Health Center from 1997-2002 as its Chief Financial Officer, and Mitchell & Titus LLP as Audit Manager from 1989-1997. Mr. Awuah graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from Pace University in 1986, then graduated with a Master’s in Accounting from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York In 1994. He is a member of the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Mr Awuah has served on various committees of the NYSSCPA, including the Health Care Committee and the Chief Financial Officers’ Committee.

Adam Aponte, MD, MSc, FAAP - Medical Director

Dr. Adam Aponte, a board certified Pediatrician, became Medical Director of BMS in December 2008. He is a graduate of City College of the City University of New York and Mount Sinai School of Medicine. Before joining the BMS family, Dr. Aponte was the Medical Director at the North General Diagnostic & Treatment Center. His tenure in health care is extensive and includes: Associate Director of Minority Affairs (now Associate Director for Recruitment & Retention) at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Chair of Pediatrics for North General Hospital, and Chairman of the Ambulatory Care Department at North General Hospital. Dr. Aponte was named one of Crain's New York Business Magazine "40 under 40" rising stars in 2005 and he also began a session called "Medical Mondays with Dr. Aponte" which broadcasted on a local New York City Radio Station, Hot 97. Dr. Aponte has focused much of his clinical activities in addressing the many health disparities witnessed in our underserved communities and educating our communities to be better consumers of health care and the importance of preventive care. Dr. Aponte continues to challenge his colleagues to reach back into underserved and Minority communities to serve as role models and mentors and help insure that others attain their full potential and reach their life's dream as he has.
